Harley-Davidson® Softail® Standard vs Softail Slim®

Today’s lineup of Harley-Davidson® models is huge, so narrowing down the options to the specific motorcycle that lives up to your expectations can be a challenge. The Cruiser family of Harley-Davidson® models features motorcycles that are designed with a powerful, smooth ride in mind, so this could be the ideal line to focus your attention on today.

The Softail® Standard is a cruiser that has classic Harley-Davidson® styling with exciting capabilities, and it may easily be compared to the Softail Slim®. When you compare the Softail® Standard vs Softail Slim®, you will see that these models are close siblings in the 2021 Harley-Davidson® lineup. However, the Softail Slim® is the more advanced of the two options. Our Twin States Harley-Davidson® sales team is thrilled to support you as you get to know these two cruiser models in greater detail. After you compare them closely and take them out for a test ride, which motorcycle will you select from our inventory?

Performance

While there are numerous differences between the 2021 Harley-Davidson® Softail® Standard and the Softail Slim®, you will not find any differences in their capabilities. They are both outfitted with a Milwaukee-Eight® 107 gas engine. The engine is designed with electronic sequential port fuel injection for a smooth, steady ride. The output, torque and efficiency ratings in both of these models are identical. They also both have a stacked design for the shotgun-style exhaust pipes. A catalyst in the muffler adds an extra element of power to the riding experience that both of these bikes deliver. Speed is moderated by a premium braking system in both models that features a four-piston fixed front and a two-piston floating rear design.

While they have the same powertrain, you will have a distinctly different riding experience on these bikes. The Softail® Standard has tall handlebars with mid-mount footrests. These elements create a stretched riding style. The 2021 Harley-Davidson® Softail Slim®, on the other hand, has cropped handlebars with floorboard-style footrests. The result is a relaxed riding style.

Appearance

The differences continue when you compare their styles during your upcoming visit to the showroom. The 2021 Harley-Davidson® Softail® Standard has steel-laced wheels with a chrome finish as well as thinner tires. At the rear of the rounded fender, a drop-down element holds the license plate’s bracket. The metallic turning fork rises well above the fuel tank and headlamp nacelle, and they are capped by black grips and chrome-accented side mirrors. Compared to the 2021 Harley-Davidson® Softail Slim®, the Softail® Standard has slightly more curvature through the fuel tank. In addition, the Softail® Standard is only available with black body paint.

The 2021 Softail Slim®, on the other hand, has steel-laced wheels with a gloss-black finish and thicker tires. The rounded fender at the rear lacks the drop-down license plate bracket. The turning fork is thick and chopped. Its black finish is highlighted by the black-on-chrome coloring of the headlamp units. In addition, the Softail Slim® has cropped handlebars and a longer, more tapered fuel tank. It is available in three solid color options and one dual-tone color option.

Features

You will notice additional differences between the 2021 Harley-Davidson® Softail® Standard and the Softail Slim® when you compare their features. For example, the Softail® Standard has a 2.14-inch LCD display screen. This screen shows off the readings for the gear selection, speedometer, odometer, clock, trip, range, fuel level and tachometer. The 2021 Harley-Davidson® Softail Slim® has all of the same readouts. However, they are delivered in a 5-inch analog gauge. For both models, you can appreciate additional gear like anti-locking brakes, engine diagnostics, a low fuel level warning, a security system, turning signals, high beams, a low oil pressure reading and a few other features.
